Hello Dear Readers…welcome to “The Diary 1928″, a real and complete handwritten journal by a lovely young seventeen year old at the start of 1928,
as she embarks on heading off to college up in Northern California. This real and actual diary was purchased at a Tag Sale several years back, and is a real
piece of Los Angeles history as the writer shares her experiences about dating, dances, locations, and heading off to college for the very first time. Enjoy!

Vacation is now ended-
Isn’t it awful when you like someone who doesn’t live up to your ideals? Yet you can’t help liking them? I haven’t decided yet whether I could respect such a person or not. It’s wonderful to set ideals and live for them, but is it right to demand your associates to live up to your same ideals? Or should you expect them to live by their own? I don’t think I’d care for someone with no ideals, in fact I know I should hate to have to be around them very often- but the question is “Do I object to someone with ideals not quite so high as my own?

I count the minutes as they pass
around the race course of my watch.
They go so slow when I am tired,
of school and tasks I ought to do;
but when vacation brings it’s sloth,
and rest from dear monotony
the little hands move round so fast,
I cannot even follow them. V.A.
I didn’t know that this was only January 4th, I could easily pursuade myself that I had slept a few months since last night and had awakened on the 4th of May. Everything seems like Spring or early Summer.
